Music at Stanningley

Music holds a special place at Stanningley Primary School. It brings joy, creativity and confidence to our children, and is a vital part of life beyond the classroom. Whether it’s singing together in assembly, learning an instrument, or performing for our community — music helps our pupils shine.

High-Quality Music Teaching

At Stanningley, we’re proud of the breadth and quality of our music provision. We work in close partnership with ArtForms Leeds, which enables us to offer specialist music teaching throughout the school.

Each week, children benefit from expert lessons delivered by a dedicated ArtForms music specialist, working alongside Mrs Hayward, our experienced school Music Lead. This ensures that music is taught progressively, with real passion and purpose.

From rhythm and composition to singing, notation and performance — our pupils enjoy a rich, hands-on experience.

Singing and Performance

Singing is at the heart of our musical life. Our children love coming together for singing assemblies and learning a wide repertoire of songs across different styles and cultures.

Two key highlights in the school year are our Christmas and Easter Services, where pupils perform at local venues to family, friends and the wider school community. These events are joyful celebrations and provide a chance for all children to perform in front of a live audience.

Stanningley Choir

Our School Choir is open to children in Key Stage 2 and meets regularly to rehearse and prepare for performances. Choir members build confidence, develop vocal technique, and most importantly — have fun singing together!

The choir performs at school events, seasonal services, and community gatherings. It’s a fantastic opportunity for children to grow as performers and team members.

Enrichment and Opportunity

We believe every child deserves to find their voice. Through music, we support:

  • Self-expression and confidence

  • Collaboration and listening skills

  • Cultural appreciation and creativity

Children also have opportunities to learn instruments, take part in composition projects, and experience live performances through visiting musicians and school trips.

Keeping Parents Involved

Music performances are shared with families through concerts, services, and class events. We love welcoming parents to celebrate children’s musical achievements — and the sense of pride is always clear to see.

Whether it's performing, composing, or simply enjoying music together, we are proud of the joyful, inclusive musical experiences we offer at Stanningley Primary School.
